Residents of Ranchi, Dhanbad and the steel city can look forward to uninterrupted power supply during Diwali as Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam (JBVNL) hopes to wrap up its repair and maintenance work by November 4.

JBVNL’s chief engineer (commercial and revenue) Sunil Thakur said they were taking measures to minimise outages. “We could ensure steady supply during Dussehra because of proper planning. Now we are taking similar measures to ensure smmoth supply during Diwali,” Thakur said.

Thakur said the state power conglomerate and holding company Jharkhand Urja Vikas Nigam (JUVNL) was currently drawing 600 megawatts (MW) from the central grids and the amount could increase depending on the need.

One of the two units of Tenughat Vidyut Nigam, which had stopped production following a glitch a couple of days back, has resumed operations from Tuesday night.

Sources said Kandra-based Adhunik Power and Natural Resources, which used to supply 189MW daily to JUVNL and stopped functioning last week, was likely to resume production before Diwali.

General manager of JBVNL’s Ranchi electricity supply area Sanjay Kumar said the capital was getting its daily requirement of 230-260MW. “We have requested our headquarters and the state load despatch centre for ensuring uninterrupted supply during Diwali,” he said.

The situation in JBVNL’s Singhbhum electricity supply area has improved from Tuesday night “Both the Golmuri and Gamharia substations, which supply power to residential and Adityapur industrial areas, have been getting adequate supply since Tuesday night,” Arvind Kumar, general manager of Singhbhum electricity supply area, said.

JBVNL’s Dhanbad supply area is pulling out all stops to ensure hassle-free Diwali. The coal town needs 300MW daily. “We are not getting the required amount, which has prompted us to take recourse to load-shedding for two hours. The situation will improve during the festival. We have asked our headquarters to provide us full load,” Naresh Sinha, general manager of JBVNL’s Dhanbad supply area, said.
