Giridih, Dec. 26: Handing over a tourist spot to a private player has sparked controversy here. For, its contractor charges each reveller Rs 10 for entering the picturesque premises.
A six-acre plot around Khandoli dam was developed into a tourist spot by Pramod Kumar. The Khandoli Development Committee had given him the contract six years ago. It also agreed on the Rs 10 entry fee after obtaining the necessary clearance for a 30-year lease from the health engineering department.
The handing over of the tourist spot to the private player and later imposing entrance fee irked the residents here.
Several leaders and political organisations, including Gandey MLA Salkhan Soren, JMM, BJP, CPI(ML), JVM and ABVP, have lodged complaints and handed memoranda to the administration to reduce the fee by December 31. Else, they threatened to launch an agitation from January 1.
CPI-ML leader Rajesh Yadav said: “Without inviting tenders or the cabinet approval, how was Khandoli leased out for 30 years?”
