Dhanbad: A public toilet in coal town is just a smartphone click away.
The municipal corporation has entered locations of 143 public, community and modular toilets across Dhanbad, Jharia, Sindri, Katras and Chatatand on Google Maps, an initiative meant to go a long way in making the town swachh.
Residents can also rate the toilets via feedback devices mounted near the entrance.
To locate a loo, one needs to simply switch on their GPS and type 'Swachh toilets near me' on Google Maps. The user will then be guided to the toilet like any other destination, complete with details like distance to be covered and ETA.
"The toilets have been linked on Google Maps as per the instruction of the state urban development department," said Dhanbad municipal commissioner Rajiv Ranjan.
Among the 143 toilets, there are 45 public loos maintained by Sulabh International while 30 community ones are looked after by different self-help groups. The remaining 68 modular toilets are maintained by private agencies.
Users will have to pay Rs 5 for latrine use at the public toilets, while for peeing there is no charge. There is free access to both community and modular toilets.
Throwing light on the feedback devices, the municipal commissioner said, "If a user feels the toilet is clean, he can press the green button on the device, if dirty, he will press red and yellow button denotes a somewhat satisfying experience."
He added, "We will take corrective measures based on the feedback received. Recently a flush of a toilet was replaced following the feedback that we received from users."
