Unique civic favouritism

This must be a new civic phenomenon for every Ranchiite to marvel over. For the first time in the capital, existing roads that are good enough and not in any urgent need of repairs are relaid while dilapidated ones are ignored. A classic example is the re-repair of the smooth Booty Road from Raj Bhavan-end. Another good bylane behind Doordarshan studios, relaid with concrete only months ago, is being dug up for repairs. On the other hand, no one bothers to repair Karbala Road, linking Purulia Road and Main Road.

Too long

The Medical Council of India (MCI) has proposed to stretch the MBBS course from five-and-a-half years to six-and-a-half years. But this is uncalled for. I support the agitation launched by MGM Medical College students and others elsewhere, who have worked hard to bag seats. Instead of increasing the duration, the compulsory one-year rural posting should be either incorporated within the MBBS tenure or included as part of the PG course.

Most timers put up at the capital’s traffic signal posts are out of order. When people got used to defunct timers, some came back to life but with wrong readings! Which is worse, dead or dead wrong? Let the hapless commuter decide.
