Jagmahinder Singh, the coach-cum-administrator of the cradle, said talks with the Calcutta Race Course was on for some months and they were happy to bring the horses. “We already have five horses and the additional ones will boost our activities. We have stitched out plans to increase the ambit of our activities,” he added.

The horses, aged between 4-6 years, have been named Milford Sound, Elcid (both male), Glorious Glory and Jordana (both mares).

“The horses are slowly adjusting to the new surroundings. Our instructors take them for walks inside the school,” Singh, who has mentored equestrian teams of BSF, ITBP and Bengal Police, added.

According to him, they were procuring four more horses, including two ponies. “The horses are expected next month. While two horses will come from Calcutta Race Course, the ponies will be procured from Jaipur,” he added.

The horses that are already there at the cradle are Toofan, Abrienda, Vellata, Basanti and Argelia.

The membership of the cradle has increased over the last week. “The membership has been increased from 85 to 92 now. We are hopeful that the number would go beyond 100 by the end of this month,” Sigh said, adding they were making serious efforts to popularise horse riding in the steel city.

While the registration fees at the school are Rs 2,500, the monthly fee is Rs 1,500.

The course includes introduction to horses, mounting and dismounting, posture on horseback, controlling the animal’s movement, etc . Instructors repeat the lessons. The school has plans to include tent pegging, jumping and trekking.
