Panic in mart

Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee, the local civic body, sanitised the vegetable market at Christian Maidan near Sonari Airport on Wednesday after panic struck vegetable-sellers on watching a man in his mid-30s develop what looked like respiratory distress.

The resident of Sonari had come to buy vegetables at 7am when he had a fit while coming out of his car, East Singhbhum epidemiologist Dr M. Asad said. “People panicked and informed the district control room for Covid-19,” Asad said. “We rushed to the spot and admitted the man in the isolation ward of MGM Hospital and took his throat swab. He does not have a travel history. We will get his report from the lab of the MGM Medical College on Thursday,” he added.

Later, the man said he had epilepsy.

JNAC city manager Sandeep Kumar said they sanitised the person’s car and area and sealed the market till afternoon.

The police also held 74 persons in the steel city for flouting the lockdown and released them on PR (personal recognisance) bonds.
