This summer, girls are exceedingly taking shelter under stoles to beat the heat.

Garment sellers in the capital are happy that the new fad of using stoles as masks is picking up fast in the capital, which in a way, has shot up sale of the piece of cloth. The girls are using the stoles to protect their skin from getting tanned and are doubling it as a style statement.

“Girls are very conscious about their skin in summers because of the tanning problem. They are taking help of stoles to protect the skin. People might not be happy because of the rising temperature but we are happy that we can make good money from selling stoles,” said Asad Kawish, a garment seller at Khetan Market. He sold around 20 stoles on Sunday.

On the places from where the garment merchants bring the stoles, Ranjan Kumar, a trader at Khetan Market, said: “We purchase it from Lucknow, Barabanki, Bhagalpur, Delhi and Mumbai. The stoles come in different designs. There are two types of stoles available at my shop. One is made of pure cotton and the other is made of viscose (a combination of natural and man-made components). The cotton stoles are more popular among the girls and one needs to shell out something between Rs 65 and Rs 250 for a stole.”

Crushed cotton stoles are the favourites among girls. Garment seller at Boring Road Amit Kumar said crushed cotton stoles could be sported with salwar suits, jeans or skirts.

A student of DAV, Anushka, said: “I think it is better to spend money to buy one stole than wasting money on buying sunscreen lotions. A single stole can be used throughout the summer. I don’t think it is a good idea to invest so much money on lotions.”

Another student, Shreya Mishra, said: “I like stoles for two reasons. Apart from protecting my skin, stoles are stylish too. I can pair it with my jeans and salwar suits.”
