Former state minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader Parveen Amanullah on Monday filed nomination for the Patna Sahib Lok Sabha seat amid protests by a section of workers of the outfit.

Amanullah hit the city roads for campaigning, along with senior party leader Manish Sisodia. However, resistance shown by a dozen people claiming to be AAP supporters marred her roadshow. They were opposing her candidature.

She started her campaign from St Michael’s High School, Digha, at 9.30am. Around 150 AAP supporters and workers had gathered there.

In the beginning, when the open-hood SUV that was hired for the campaign could not reach the spot on time, Amanullah for a while lost her cool. She then chose to sit in an SUV, along with Sisodia. Soon she realised that sitting in the SUV will not allow her to connect to the voters because people standing in balconies were unable to see her. Even Sisodia expressed the same feeling.

“This is a road show, how can we go like this when people are not able to see us?” asked Sisodia.

Around 15 minutes later, both got down the SUV and started walking, leaving the vehicle behind.

This was not the first time that the daughter of former diplomat and MP Syed Shahabuddin was walking on the road. Last year, when she served as social welfare minister, Amanullah had walked 200m to JD(U) MLA Anant Singh’s hotel in Patliputra to protest against encroachment.

On Monday, she had the same look when she hit the road protesting against the BJP, the Congress and the JD(U). As Patna Sahib votes on April 17, she did not miss the opportunity to raise slogans such as “Kamal-haath pe jhadu maar” and “Bhrastachar ka ek hi kaal, Kejriwal Kejriwal”.

After a walk of 1.5km, the open-hood SUV joined the road show near Sadaquat Ashram much to the glee of the two leaders. As soon as the duo reached Rajapur Pul, covering a distance of 5km, a handful of AAP supporters tried to stop the SUV and expressed anger on giving ticket to Amanullah.

Amanullah’s supporters, however, beat up a few of protesters and cleared the road. On the protest, Sisodia said: “Some people are disappointed for not getting a Lok Sabha ticket. It is not possible to offer ticket to everyone.”

Amanullah will take on actor-politician Shatrughan Sinha of BJP, Bhojpuri film actor Kunal Singh of the Congress and noted doctor Gopal Prasad Sinha of the JD(U).
