Patna: The state rural development department has ordered all programme officers associated with Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) to join the Google groups created for them.

Issuing the directives on Friday, principal secretary of the department S. Santosh Mathew said the Google groups would help to share knowledge/information and spread issues and directives related to MNREGA among all the officers.

Bribe arrest

Gaya: Vigilance personnel on Friday nabbed Umakant Verma, the block programme officer of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act in Barachatti block of Gaya district while he was accepting Rs 52,000 as bribe from two rozgaar sevaks.

Class rule

Patna: The education department on Friday issued a directive mandating teachers in government elementary schools to teach at least 45 hours each week.

Probe order

Patna: The state police headquarters has issued directives to the criminal investigation department to probe two recent cases of custodial deaths reported from Aurangabad and Patna districts.

B>n Patna: The state education department on Friday released the schedule for appointment of 1.25 lakh teachers in elementary schools. Teachers’ Eligibility Test passouts can submit their applications from August 8 till November. The appointment of those selected will start from December 7.

Review

Patna: Vrinda Swaroop, additional secretary, ministry of human resource development, on Friday reviewed the progress of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan with education department principal secretary Amarjeet Sinha.

Sentence

Gaya: The court of additional district judge II, Pervez Alam, on Friday sentenced 10 persons to life imprisonment on charge of murdering two persons under Alipur police station in Gaya district on April 28, 2006.

Nirmal Baba

Patna: A Patna High Court bench of Justice Ashwini Kumar Singh on Friday quashed the non-bailable warrant of arrest order issued by Araria court on May 18 against Nirmaljit Singh Narula, popularly known as Nirmal Baba, the self-proclaimed godman.

Mishap

Siwan: Three persons died and six were injured in two different accidents in the district on Friday. Paras Sah died when a dumper hit a roadside shop he was sleeping in. In another incident, Lal Babu Sah died when a pick-up van and a tractor collided head-on. In another incident Prithvi Nath Yadav died following an accident near Barharia.
