CM to launch varsity logo

Chief minister Nitish Kumar will launch the logo, anthem and website of the newly carved Patliputra University at Bapu Sabhaghar of Samrat Ashok Convention hall on July 28.

Patna: Chief minister Nitish Kumar will launch the logo, anthem and website of the newly carved Patliputra University at Bapu Sabhaghar of Samrat Ashok Convention hall on July 28.

In March this year, the state government gave its nod for creation of three varsities from three universities - Patliputra University carved out of Magadh University, Munger University from Tilka Manjhi University Bhagalpur and Purnea University bifurcating BN Mandal University.

Among the three new universities, Patliputra University is the first to launch its logo, anthem and website. Patliputra University is presently functioning from the old branch office of Magadh University at Rajendra Nagar. Patliputra University pro-vice-chancellor G.C. Choudhary said: "Chief minister Nitish Kumar, along with state education minister Krishna Nandan Prasad Verma, Patliputra University VC Gulab Chandra Ram Jaiswal and other university officials will be present on the occasion."

He added: "The chief minister will launch the logo, anthem, website and souvenir of the varsity."

The university logo, which will be launched by the chief minister, has a picture of the Asokan emblem, a picture of the Nalanda University ruins with Patliputra University written on it. At the bottom of the round-shaped logo, a shlok from the Bhagavad Gita is written.

The university academic council has approved the logo design and it has been sent to the state government for a final approval. The souvenir which Nitish will launch on July 28 carries the information of all colleges of Patliputra University. All colleges falling under Patna and Nalanda district that will come under Patliputra University has been asked to provide a brief history, courses and other details about the colleges. Under the newly carved Patliputra University, around 100 colleges which includes constituent, affiliated, minority, government, BEd and two engineering colleges will come.

The university which is going to start its first academic session from July-end or the first week of August is carrying out appointment of senior officials on a war footing to smoothen the functioning of the new varsity. The university, apart from appointment of VC and pro-VC in March this year, has appointed 11 officers, including registrar, dean, students' welfare, proctor, examination controller, finance officer, and others. Also the renovation work of the Magadh University branch office at Rajendra Nagar is going on.

The university has also decided to launch the postgraduate departments as most of the postgraduate departments have gone with Magadh University.

The postgraduate departments will be launched in all three streams - science, arts and commerce. In science, the PG departments will be in mathematics, physics, botany, zoology and chemistry, while the postgraduate departments at commerce will be MCom. In arts, the postgraduate departments will be in Hindi, English, history, economics, political science and psychology.
