Dhaka: Friday will be etched in the history of Indian cricket as a memorable and emotional day when Sachin Tendulkar brought up the unthinkable feat of 100 International hundreds.

But it turned out to be a remarkable day for Bangladesh as well as they went on to beat India by five wickets in the Asia Cup tussle.

Captain Mushfiqur Rahim added emotion to the achievement when he dedicated the victory to the late Manzarul Islam, the Bangladesh player who passed away in a road accident almost five years ago.

“It’s a huge moment for us. I would like to share one thing… We want to dedicate this win to Manzarul Islam who passed away five years back. This win was for him,” Rahim said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

“We decided that we have to do it for Manzarul. The bowlers did a good job. Our fielding was not up to the mark today, but our batting was superb. Tamim Iqbal and Jaharul Islam gave us a good start… Then Shakib (-al Hasan) and Nasir (Hossain) capitalised on the start and pushed the run rate,” he added.

India failed to defend the total, but captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni reposed faith in his bowlers, saying that they will learn from mistakes and start performing under pressure.

Dhoni accepted that a better team won the match in the end.

“They played better cricket throughout. They began well and capitalised on that. They made sure they spent time on the crease.

“At the start of the Powerplay, our bowlers felt the pressure and crumbled.

“Some more runs on the board would have been better,” Dhoni said.

Asked if his side lacked bowling talent, Dhoni said: “Talent is there... They just need to execute plans with consistency. The youngsters will learn more. They will start performing... They felt the pressure today.”

Dhoni also praised Bangladesh’s effort. “Bangladesh can play really well on their day, they used the conditions well, their reverse swing bowling was good… And they got the partnerships going.”

About the pressure surrounding the upcoming Pakistan match, the captain said: “I don’t know when was the last time we played without pressure.

“Especially if the opposition is Pakistan, the pressure will be obviously more. I think it will be a good game.

“At least, that’s what we are expecting. We can’t really control the result… But for us, it will be coming onto the field and trying to give our best. We can’t afford to repeat the same mistakes, which we committed today.”

Reacting to Sachin’s historic hundred, Dhoni said: “This is something most of us cannot even think of. It is a tremendous achievement. We cannot forget this.”

Tendulkar was presented a commerative plaque by the Bangladesh Cricket Board for his achievement.

Man of the Match Shakib, who set up the win after his fiery 49 off 31 balls, said the victory was a result of team effort. “We are really happy with the way everyone played today… It was a great team performance.

“We did not have such a good start with the ball… But we came back strongly. The batters really put in their best efforts upfront. And when we needed to take some risks, we took them accordingly.”

About his own innings, Shakib said: “I think my innings was crucial because it gave us the belief that we can win the game… I would also like to credit Nasir, who played some extraordinary shots and supported me. We were supposed to come at No. 5 and No.6, but the captain pushed us and it turned out to be a masterstroke.

“As long as I am contributing and the team is winning, I am really happy.

“Hopefully, the guys will also come good against Sri Lanka,” Shakib added.
