Bernard Tomic launched a blistering tirade against Tennis Australia and its head of performance Pat Rafter after his third round exit at Wimbledon on Friday. The attack came after Rafter said he would end funding for players in their 20s and that Tomic's sister Sara would also have her funding cut off because of the uncooperative attitude of their father John.

Tomic accused Tennis Australia chief executive Craig Tiley and president Steve Healy of neglecting him and Rafter of being an "good actor".

"Don't get me wrong," the 22-year-old said after his loss to defending champion Novak Djokovic. "A lot of money was invested in me, for sure. But whatever they invested in me, they got in return 10, 20 times more. That's 100 percent certain. Now all of a sudden, they are neglecting me"

Heather has a bigger goal

Serena Williams once featured among Heather Watson's bedroom posters, but after the Briton almost ran her idol out of Wimbledon on Friday, the game's big hitters are now in her sights on court.

Watson, ranked 59th, was twice just two points away from knocking out Serena but eventually came up short losing 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 in the third round. But for 23-year-old Watson, there was no glory in defeat. "I wouldn't call losing the greatest day of my career. I've learnt that I can compete with the best in the world and I can play really good tennis.Agencies

Brown’s spinning drop-shot

Wimbledon’s new fan favourite Dustin Brown has just given spectators another reason to love him: pulling off a ridiculous backspin drop-shot that made the ball bounce back over the net to his own side of the court. The dreadlocked 30-year-old used the momentum on opponent Viktor Troicki’s serve to generate the extreme spin that brough the ball back over the net.
