Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy: Clinical Tamil Nadu clinch title
Tamil Nadu produced an impressive batting display after left-arm spinner Manimaran Siddharth’s four-wicket haul as they won the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy, defeating Baroda by seven wickets in the final here on Sunday.
This was Tamil Nadu’s second Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy triumph, after winning their first title way back in 2006-07.
Siddharth (four for 20) restricted Baroda to 120 for nine and Tamil Nadu reached the target with 12 balls to spare.
Chasing 121 for a win, Tamil Nadu lost opener Narayan Jagadeesan (14) early as pacer Lukman Meriwala picked up the first wicket, with the opposition at 26 for one. But Nishanth continued playing his shots and was joined by Baba Aparajith (29 not out off 35 balls) as Tamil Nadu reached 61 for one after 10 overs.
However, medium-pacer Babashafi Pathan removed Nishanth in the 12th over which reduced Tamil Nadu to 67 for two and gave Baroda a glimmer of hope.
However, skipper Dinesh Karthik played his part well with a 16-ball 22, before Aparajith and Shahrukh Khan (18 not out off seven balls) then took Tamil Nadu home.
Brief scores: Baroda 120/9 in 20 ovs (V. Solanki 49; M. Siddharth 4/20). Tamil Nadu 123/3 in 18 ovs (CH Nishanth 35). Tamil Nadu won by 7 wickets.
