Calcutta: Former India captain Sourav Ganguly praised the India bowlers for taking seven Sri Lankan wickets in just 26. 3 overs of their second innings.
“All of them bowled well. They got help from the wicket and made the most of it. Bhuvneshwar (Kumar) and (Mohammed) Shami were brilliant,” Sourav said at the Eden on Monday.
Sourav, however, was not interested in comparing Virat Kohli with Sachin Tendulkar. Virat, on Monday, registered his 50th international century. Sachin, of course, owns 100 of them.
“It’s too early to compare Virat with Sachin. He still has to make 50 more centuries… But the way he is going, he will make many more such hundreds. He has a long way to go,” Sourav said.
Asked if India could have declared a little early, Sourav said: “India needed to be in a comfortable position to declare. They did the right thing.”
On the other hand, former Sri Lanka cricketer-turned-commentator Russel Arnold feels that the draw was a good result for Dinesh Chandimal’s team.
“Sri Lanka started the game well but India fought back strongly. At the end of the day, Sri Lanka got a draw… In a way it is a good result for them. But they should have been pushing for a win instead of fighting to save the game.”
