Shubman Gill has been ruled out of the first half of the Test series against England, beginning early August.

Sources told The Telegraph that the young opener has a shin injury and needs at least “six weeks’ rest”.

“It is most likely that he had been carrying the injury for sometime and got it aggravated during the World Test Championship final in Southampton. He is expected to recover in around six weeks, but if he doesn’t, he could be ruled out of the series,” someone in the know of things said.

As of now, he will stay with the squad in England. He’s, however, likely to be available for KKR in the IPL.

In Shubman’s absence, Mayank Agarwal or KL Rahul will partner Rohit Sharma at the top. Bengal’s Abhimanyu Easwaran is also among the reserves.

The Indian players have been given a break and will assemble in Durham on July 14 for a camp ahead of the Test series. A couple of intra-squad games have been planned.
