On the directive of the Hyderabad High Court and on approval received by the Committee of Administrators, the BCCI on Tuesday appointed Ratnakar Shetty (GM, administration and game development, BCCI) as observer for the one-off Test between India and Bangladesh, scheduled to be held in Hyderabad from Thursday. Santosh Rangnekar (chief financial officer, BCCI) was made the financial advisor, the BCCI said in a statement.

Shetty as observer

Blind cricket

Bhubaneswar: India thrashed New Zealand by nine wickets in the T20 World Cup for Blind here on Tuesday. New Zealand elected to bat and were restricted to a meagre 136/6. Chasing 137, India easily made 140/1.

 

Kalighat's victory

Calcutta: Abhimanyu Easwaran's 105 and Sreevats Goswami's 78 helped Kalighat beat ABP Sports Club by 42 runs in the Senior Knockout meet on Tuesday.

Tollygunge Agragami 186/8 in 45 (Shivam Sharma 66; Ashok Dinda 4/26). Mohun Bagan 187/1 in 27.1 (Sudip Chatterjee 77 n.o., Sayan Sekhar Mondal 69 n.o.). Mohun Bagan won by 9 wkts.

Barisha Sporting 214/6 in 38 (Ajmer Singh 76, Satyabrata Murmu 68 n.o.). Rajasthan 206/9 in 38 (Vishap Kaushik 91; Raju Halder 3/31). Barisha won by 8 runs.

Kalighat 321/4 in 45 (Abhimanyu Easwaran 105, Sreevats Goswami 78, Mahesh Tiwary 71). ABP SC 279 in 43.4 (Debagni Basu 76, Arnab Ghosh 65; Aamir Gani 4/55). Kalighat won by 42 runs.

 

300 n.o. in 72 balls

New Delhi: Mohit Ahlawat could manage only five runs in the three Ranji Trophy matches he played for Delhi in 2015. On Tuesday, however, he created history by scoring an unbeaten 300 in a local T20 club outing. Mohit faced only 72 balls and hit 14 fours and 39 sixes. He was playing for Maavi XI against Friends XI in the Friends Premier League. Maavi XI reached 416.

 

Women's golf

Calcutta: Sheena Rawla, with three-under 64, was in the lead on Tuesday in the Taj Bengal Trophy, main division, at the Tollygunge Club. Nikita Biswas and Rina Sen were in second and third spot.

 

Nadal's warm-up

London: A resurgent Rafael Nadal will warm up for the Wimbledon by returning to the Queen's Club for the Aegon Championships in June. The 14-times Grand Slam champion missed the entire grasscourt season last year with a wrist injury, but after finishing runner-up to Roger Federer at the Australian Open, he hopes a good run in west London will bode well in his pursuit of a third Wimbledon title.

Third seeds Satwik Sai Raj R and Chirag Shetty won the men's doubles title, defeating Nanda Gopal K and Sanyam Shukla 21-17, 16-21, 21-14.

 

EB's 'niggles'

Calcutta: Willis Plaza, Wedson Anselme, Robin Singh and TP Rehenesh were rested for East Bengal's training session on Tuesday, though coach Trevor Morgan dismissed the situation as "small niggles and nothing serious". East Bengal meet Mohun Bagan in the I-League Derby on Sunday. Meanwhile, East Bengal have roped in Shyam Steel as co-sponsors for the football team.
