Margao/Pune: Ryuji Sueoka scored twice as Salgaocar came from behind to record a 3-1 win over defending champions Dempo and move to second place, in a 10th round I-League match at the Nehru Stadium here, on Wednesday.
After Sueoka cancelled Kalu Ogba’s third minute strike in the 32nd minute, Salgaocar took control of the match and scored through Francis Fernandes (65th), before Sueoka sealed the fate by converting a penalty in the 80th minute. Salgaocar, who lost to Mohun Bagan in their previous match, started in a whirlwind fashion playing quick, short passes and had the first chance early in the second minute, but Marcus Mascarenhas’ shot went straight to the rival keeper.
Dempo made a counter move and scored a minute late, when Kalu Ogba found the corner of the net with a header.
In Pune, HAL Bangalore defeated hosts Pune FC by a solitary goal in the round 10 match to register their third win of the I-League at the Balewadi Sports Complex. The only goal of the match was scored by Jagaba Amaba in the 32nd minute. (PTI)
