Calcutta: Promising wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant and left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav have been picked for India's limited-overs series in the West Indies, which comprises five ODIs and a T20 International.

The series begins soon after the Champions Trophy ends in England. The first ODI is on June 23 in Port of Spain.

Opener Rohit Sharma and fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah are the only members from the Champions Trophy squad who have been rested and won't be making the trip to the Caribbean.

Both Rishabh and Kuldeep were in the standbyes for the Champions Trophy.

When India announced the squad for the Champions Trophy, selection committee chairman MSK Prasad had said they had discussed both Pant and Kuldeep, but went with experience for the big tournament. Prasad had called them players for the future.

Pant has already made a mark with his aggressive batting, which included a 308 off 326 balls in the Ranji Trophy last season.

Kuldeep made his Test debut against Australia in Dharamsala, and took crucial wickets to help India win the series.

The team management probably wanted to rest Rohit, who is coming back after a hamstring surgery. He has been playing back-to-back matches since early April after having already played a month-and-a-half of Indian Premier League.

With Rohit not there, Pant could be a choice as opener but as has been the norm, Ajinkya Rahane will be the top contender to open the innings with Shikhar Dhawan.

Pant looks certain to feature in the single T20 International, having already made his debut.

"The administrative staff of the Indian cricket team will continue for the tour of West Indies," said a BCCI release.

There has been no word on coach Anil Kumble, whose contract ends with the Champions Trophy, but it is likely that he will accept the BCCI's offer to stay on until there's a decision on the next coach.
