Calcutta: Promising young medium pacer Ravikant Singh, part of the Bengal U-23 squad and a member of the India U-19 team that emerged world champions in 2012, has been reported for a suspect bowling action.
It was during the CK Nayudu Trophy match in October, featuring the U-23 teams of Bengal and Tamil Nadu at the JU Salt Lake Campus ground, that match referee Shakti Singh reported Ravikant's action.
For Ravikant, though, what's more disappointing is the delay that has been caused by the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) in sending him to the Sri Ramachandra Arthroscopy and Sports Science Centre in Chennai, an ICC-accredited testing centre, for corrective measures.
"Since I have an hyperextension of arm, I had got a certificate related to that from the National Cricket Academy before the 2012 U-19 World Cup.
"The match referee for the CK Nayudu Trophy game still reported my action, but I was never barred from bowling.
"I'm not perturbed by the report. What seems to be disturbing me more is the delay being caused in reaching the centre in Chennai," said an upset Ravikant, who plays for Bhowanipore, on Tuesday.
"The centre in Chennai is probably the only proper centre where I can test my action and get it remodelled.
"Now, unless the state association helps and arranges for my departure, I can't do anything. I cannot go there on my own."
Though the CAB officials didn't wish to say much on record, joint secretary Subir Ganguly said: "I can only say that some arrangement or the other will definitely be made for Ravikant."
Another senior official, however, informed that arrangements are already being made so that there's no more delay in sending Ravikant to Chennai.
He added that Writtick Chatterjee, who also represents Bhowanipore and played three first-class matches for Bengal, will also be heading to Chennai to work on his action.
"The delay occurred because CAB had to work out some formalities. As of now, it seems both Ravikant and Writtick will leave for Chennai on January 3," the official said.
For his part, though, Ravikant is not sitting with hands folded just because he is yet to reach Chennai. In fact, he has already started working on his action.
"I cannot afford to waste time. I'm doing what I need to. I'm playing the club matches for Bhowanipore and I feel I'm doing a decent job.
"I'm also working a bit on my bowling action," he said.
