Ajmer: Reigning national champions Mouma Das and Subhajit Saha led the charge as title holders PSPB had a smooth sail in both women and men’s team events on the opening day of the 68th National Table Tennis Championship here Wednesday.
In the women’s section, PSPB blanked Chhattisgarh and Punjab in two consecutive rounds while men thrashed Jammu and Kashmir in the first round.
Mouma, Indian Open runner-up Poulomi Ghatak and Shamini K. scored comfortable victories over their rivals from Chhattisgarh in the first round of the 32-team tournament. While Mouma beat Prachi Sood 11-4, 11-3, 11-6, Poulomi quelled the challenge from Shweta Shrivastava 14-12, 11-4, 11-6.
In men’s Group A , Subhajit Saha gave the perfect start to PSPB’s campaign beating Dheeraj 11-8, 11-5, 11-3. Ranbir Das defeated Arjun Kohli 11-3, 11-8, 6-11, 11-1 and Anal Kashyap trounced Maninder Singh 11-3, 11-7, 11-7 to seal the issue for the champions. (PTI)
