Barasat: A spirited Peerless SC held United SC to a 1-1 draw in their CFL Premier League encounter at the Barasat Stadium, here, on Saturday.

It was United who went ahead in the 41st minute, through a Snehasish Chakraborty strike. Snehasish advanced down the left flank and cut into the box before taking a powerful shot that went in, taking slight deflection off goalkeeper Sadejuddin’s hand.

Later, in the 66th minute, it was Christopher who scored the equaliser for Peerless. The goal was a delight to see, as was the little jig he did near the touchline after scoring. It was a treat for the handful, who were present at the stadium.

United could have returned with full points but Ranty Martins wasted the best opportunity of the day when he missed a penalty in the 78th minute. Biswajit Biswas was brought down and the referee Animesh Biswas pointed to the dreaded spot.

The match was a little slow at the start, with both teams trying to consolidate their game in the midfield. But in the second half, with the floodlights coming on, more forays into the opponent areas were made.

While United did continue with their sporadic attacks, about 15 minutes into the second half, it was Peerless who became more aggressive. And the goal was a result of that. Christopher, being fed well by his midfield, went past three defenders to strike home.
