The withdrawal of Ikaria paved way for Tigress Noire’s victory in the 1,600m Irish Thoroughbred Breeders Association Trophy at the Pune races on Friday. Wayne Smith partnered the Dallas Todywalla-trained filly. There have been nearly a dozen withdrawals in the day’s 10-event card — all on veterinary grounds. However, unconfirmed sources in Mumbai said nearly 300 horses are suffering from a kind of viral fever. In Saturday’s card, eight horses have already been withdrawn and more may follow suit on the race day.
