Dortmund: A French policeman beaten close to death by German hooligans at the World Cup in France in 1998 was in Dortmund on Wednesday, on an invitation, to see Germany’s game against Poland.
Gendarme Daniel Nivel met German football association (DFB) co-president Theo Zwanziger, general secretary Horst R. Schmidt and other officials for lunch on Wednesday and was attended the Group A match at the Westfalenstadion.
“It’s a privilege to be able to be here with my family in Dortmund,” said Nivel, who was accompanied by his wife and two sons. (REUTERS)
