As Chennai Super Kings doddered on the verge of elimination from this edition of the IPL, Mahendra Singh Dhoni preferred to concentrate on the process.

“It’s not always supposed to go your way,” the CSK captain said after the loss to Rajasthan Royals on Monday. “That’s why we try to go back to the process and see whether the process is wrong or whether we weren’t able to execute. The result is always a by-product of the process,” Dhoni remarked.

“We’ve tried a few things. You don’t want insecurity to prevail in the dressing room. Fair enough, this season we weren’t really there. Also few chances were given to the youngsters. Maybe we didn’t see the kind of spark that they could’ve given us.

“But what this result has done is give those youngsters a chance in whatever is left in our league stages. They will get a chance and have no real pressure on them so they can go out and express themselves.”

Royals captain Steve Smith was happy with their performance. “Strange game but nice to be on the winning side,” said Smith.
