Four players — Deep Sengupta, B. Adhiban, S.P. Sethuraman and Harish Sharma — shared the lead with 5.5 points each after the sixth round of the National Challenger Chess Championship being held at the Town Hall on Tuesday.
Diptayan Ghosh of Bengal went down to IM Verghese Koshy of Tamil Nadu. Mary Ann Gomes of Bengal made short work of Sayantan Das with the black pieces in a French Defence. She now has five points to her credit.
The IFA Shield has been rescheduled for September 1 and the final will be played on September 10. Earlier it was slated for an August 28 kick-off. The dates were changed after Mohun Bagan wanted to field their full team for the tournament. Three players, Deepak Mondal, NS Manju and Rakesh Masih, are at present with the national team for the Nehru Cup and will be back only after August 31, if India make it to the final.
