IM title for Saptarshi

Calcutta: City boy and a former The Telegraph Schools’ Chess champion Saptarshi Roy clinched his third and final norm and made sure of the International Master title on Tuesday.

The 19-year-old clinched his final norm in the final round of the GM Open Tournament in Madrid on Tuesday. He also scored 6.5 out of possible 9 in the tournament, which was dominated by the Grandmasters.

Saptarshi, who is currently participating in another tournament in Amsterdam, won his first IM norm in November 2004 and bagged his second earlier this year in January. He now has 2365 Elo points.

Soccer meet

The Calcutta Rangers Club will organise a mercantile five-a-side soccer tournament from July 10 to August 5.
