Adelaide: Rodney Marsh has joined Greg Chappell in admitting that his “one regret” is that he didn’t play in India.

“That’s the one regret I have, not playing there,” Marsh, Australia’s part-time selector and recently-appointed manager — elite coaching development, told The Telegraph.

He spoke at the Adelaide Oval on Thursday evening, while waiting for his captain and buddy, Ian Chappell, to complete his TV commitments for the day.

Marsh, the most successful ’keeper in Test cricket for years (355 dismissals in 96 matches) till he was overtaken by compatriot Ian Healy in 1998, said that his latest job was a “work in progress.”

As for his approach, Marsh emphasised that he liked to “source the best information from the best possible people.”

“This is one game where you never stop learning... I’m 64 and 28 years after retiring, I’m still learning something every day... That’s the attitude I have,” Marsh pointed out.

Marsh will only be “guiding” national coach Mickey Arthur, not imposing his views. “If anything is to be done (on the overall coaching strategy), it will be through consensus.”

The legend, clearly, has no desire to exceed his brief.
