Calcutta: The ODI series versus England also underlined the improvement Hardik Pandya has had as an all-rounder.

Maybe he needs to work a bit on his bowling, but as s batsman, he proved how dangerous he can be especially in the death overs.

Crediting Rahul Dravid for the raise in standard of his game, Pandya feels that learning from his mistakes has helped him return to the Indian team as a better player.

Talking to reporters in Kanpur ahead of the first of the three T20Is versus England, he said: "After the World T20 last year, I had a slight reality check.

"I knew there were areas to improve and the A tour of Australia was pretty important for me. I learnt a lot of things about my game there. Rahul (Dravid) Sir helped me a lot, he spoke to me about my game as well as working on the mental aspect.

Paras (Mhambrey) Sir too helped me, with my bowling and worked on my fitness. It was a complete package, as my fitness, my bowling as well as the mental aspect of the game were all looked after...

"As an individual, I feel we should all accept our mistakes and learn from it. I have learnt from the mistakes I made. If I don't accept my mistake, I will not improve in the next game."

Pandya rued playing that shot off Ben Stokes, which got him out and brought England back in the game in the final one-dayer at the Eden.

"I shouldn't have played that shot, but I felt the asking rate was climbing and someone had to take a chance. Kedar (Jadhav) was the one who would have stayed until the end and I was the one who had to take the risks.

"In that process, I ended up getting out. But I will hopefully rectify my mistake next time around and choose the right shot," he said.

Nonetheless, the ODI series has turned Pandya into a much more confident player. "It gives a lot of confidence when you are coming off a good series.

"As a player, it was important for me to believe that I belong here in this Indian team. It was a pretty important series for me and thankfully, it turned out to be a good series on an individual level too," Pandya said.

He added: "We need to keep the basics pretty simple. "

Talking about adjusting to the bowling attack that will be led by veteran Ashish Nehra, Pandya said: "I don't think there will be any difference. I have played with him (Nehra) before and I am very confident."Individually, it doesn't make any difference when someone else comes into the team. His inclusion only strengthens our bowling attack very much."

Asked about the difference in captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Virat Kohli, Pandya replied: "Both of them guide me. MS used to give me a lot of confidence as a bowler, as a batsman as well as a player. Virat also does the same thing.

"I just don't find any difference between the two. And I am pretty happy with Virat's captaincy."
