New Delhi: England fast bowler Jade Dernbach, on Sunday, said that his side need to come up with an improved performance in all departments of the game in the second one-dayer against India to stay alive in the series, here on Monday.

India crushed England by 126 runs in the first ODI in Hyderabad but Dernbach said the visitors have it in them to beat the hosts.

“There are quite a few areas where we went wrong in the last match. I don’t think it was just the spin department. We were outplayed in all departments and if we can improve in each of those, we have a better chance of winning the remaining of the matches. We need to buck up,” said Dernbach.

He seemed to be still in awe of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, whom England couldn’t dismiss for last three matches.

“Dhoni is a fantastic player… As a bowling unit, we must find a way of getting him out. We also need to find a way of containing the runs,” said Dernbach.

The English bowler conceded that it was disappointing show by his side in the opening match but said there was enough time to bounce back in the series.

“Obviously, we were disappointed with the result the other night. We just didn’t play very well. It’s something we will have to try to correct. We have four games to rectify that situation. So, we have got time to set it right,” he said.

Asked why the Indian captain was so successful in the Hyderabad tie, the English bowler said: “He spent quite a long time in the middle. Once he got settled, he was quite destructive. It was our failure that we couldn’t contain or dismiss him.
