Golfer Emiliano Grillo fears he will miss his shot at Olympic glory after his clubs got lost en route to Brazil. Grillo appears to have been sent on a wild goose chase before landing in Rio de Janeiro without his bag and has taken out his mounting frustration on social media.

The golfer posted: "Delays, rerouting and 20+ calls can't find my golf bag. I am going to miss my chance to compete in the Olympics."

The two rounds of Olympic golf take place on Thursday and Friday, with time running out for Grillo to get his hands on his clubs in time to tee off.

Only on Saturday, Grillo - who is the World No 39 - tweeted a picture of his beloved bag, ready for the off.

One gets the feeling that American Airlines' attempts to reassure their distressed customer aired towards the futile and Grillo's responses did nothing to ease the pressure.

At one point, Grillo tweeted: "Seriously, find me a human in JFK [New York], MIA [Miami], or Sao Paolo that can physically look for my bag and confirm where it is and send it."

Of course, when the PR gods taketh with one hand they giveth with the other; pizza-makers Domino's have come out of the whole thing very well, with Grillo taking time to thank them personally for their support on his desperate chase. "On a high note," he tweeted, "thank you so much @dominos for the delivery at 3 AM. I don't know what I would do without your love."

The 23-year-old eventually started a poll on the social media website to see where the world thought his bags might be.
