Calcutta: East Bengal recorded their fifth victory in a row in the ongoing CFL Premier Division A, beating Tollygunge Agragami by a solitary goal at the Barasat Stadium on Sunday.
The only goal of the match was scored by Callum Angus, which eventually turned out to be the decider.
With this win, East Bengal now have 15 points from five matches and climbed back to top of the table.
Because of continuous rain, East Bengal were hardly impressive in the first half. However, Tollygunge goalkeeper Kunzang Bhutia was tested once by Somide Adelaja, but he responded with a brilliant save.
East Bengal custodian Luis Baretto too had to be alert to keep the rivals at bay.
East Bengal came back strongly in the second half and with the introduction of Do Dong Hyun, who came in the 58th minute as a substitute for Adelaja, the forward line then showed a lot more cohesion.
East Bengal finally broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute when Angus headed in an inch perfect corner-kick from Mehtab Hussain. After gong ahead, East Bengal got a few more chances but they could not capitalise on them.
It was one of the hard fought wins of the season for East Bengal. Coach Trevor James Morgan too accepted it.
