Mumbai: In an attempt to spread awareness about World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada)’s code, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday conducted its first of a series of workshops for the physios of the state teams.

Vece Paes, renowned sports medicine expert who had previously worked with the Asian Cricket Council, along with Indian team physio Nitin Patel and National Cricket Academy head coach, education and sports science, Kinjal Suratwala, conducted the daylong workshop at the Cricket Centre.

“It was a really useful programme. I have been with the Indian rugby team and also been part of IPL, but today I learnt much more,” Aijaz Ashai, physio of the Mumbai team, said.

“It will help improve communication between the support staff of the Indian team and the physios from the state units.”

The controversial ‘whereabouts’ clause of the Wada code didn’t come up during the workshop.

A statement from the BCCI said that the participants were briefed on the various points about the anti-doping code and were given copies of handbooks provided by the National Anti-Doping Agency to the BCCI.
