Baidya in third round Bridge meet State league

l Arup Baidya moved into the men’s singles third round of the state ranking badminton championship for the Kohinoor Cup at Anushilan Samity on Monday. In a Round II match, the former state champion cruised past Diptiman Chowdhury 15-2, 15-0.

Sub-jr boys’ singles: Ashutosh Banerjee bt Dwaipayan Dhar 15-6, 15-7; Subharthi Banerjee bt Deep Ghosh 15-4, 15-2; Amit Dey bt Sagarnil Dhar 15-2, 15-7; Pranab Sen bt Udit Paul 15-3, 15-6; Diptiman Chowdhury bt Pushan Roy 14-17, 15-9, 15-8. Mini girls singles: Seshadri Sanyal bt Oindrila Bose 11-1, 11-0; Anushua Nath bt Mohona Mukherjee 11-4, 11-2; Tamali Bagchi bt Atreyee Dutta 11-0, 11-2.

l Alok Daga’s IV, comprising Subhas Gupte, Manas Mukherjee, Rana Roy, Subir Majumdar, Chandra Sekhar Majumdar and Daga, retained the team title of the all India Shree Cement bridge championship, which concluded at Bengal Rowing Club on Sunday. In the pairs event, the P.K. Bera-Swapan Ghosh combination lifted the crown.

l Chandannagar routed Purulia 3-0 in a group 1 second-round match of the Konark Sheet state football league on Monday. Meanwhile, Bankura held Howrah goalless draw.
