Calcutta: Atletico de Kolkata (ATK) are in a spot of bother over their final practice session before leaving for the ISL II opener versus Chennaiyin FC on Saturday.
With Maidan grounds not available from October 1 to 15 and the Central Park to be taken over for works related to the Bidhannagar Municipal elections, ATK are left with no venue to hold Thursday's practice session. The stadium at Howrah was an option, but East Bengal are scheduled to train there.
"We know that Maidan grounds aren't available for a couple of weeks. But we'll try and make one last-ditch effort to see if we can get the Bagan ground for another day of practice.
"I believe we will be able to sort things out by tomorrow morning," said one ATK official after Wednesday's training session at the Bagan ground.
The defending champions will be leaving for Chennai for the opening game on Friday.
Precisely, circumstances aren't quite ideal for Antonio Lopez Habas's s team as some of the players, it appears, are struggling with injuries and may find it difficult to be ready for the show on Saturday.
With defender Josemi nursing an injury, Sheikh Jewel Raja too sustained a thigh muscle injury and looks doubtful.
<>It's not that ATK aren't aware of the situation, but they are going ahead keeping both the players in their scheme of things for the away tie versus Chennaiyin. "Their injuries are not that serious. Otherwise, you wouldn't have seen them at the ground," the team official said.
"It's difficult to say whether Josemi will recover in two days' time, as the final decision on whether he will be part of the starting XI depends on Habas."
Josemi was an integral part of ATK's defence last year that played a pivotal role in the franchise winning the inaugural edition. Ofentse Nato could come in as a replacement if Josemi is ruled out for Saturday's game.
