Calcutta: Goalkeeper Sanjiban Ghosh’s error in the 76th minute cost Mumbai FC three points in their first I-League match as they lost 2-3 to Pailan Arrows at the Salt Lake Stadium on Saturday. For Arrows, Holicharan Narzary struck a brace and Milan Singh scored the other goal. N.D. Opara and James Singh scored the goals for Mumbai FC.

So pathetic was Mumbai FC’s display that even coach Khalid Jamil was peeved. “The boys did not show the desire to win. They were not serious… I will accept the fact that my goalkeeper had a bad day but the way my boys played today was absolutely disgusting,” said Jamil.

In the 76th minute, after receiving a backpass from Kamaljeet Kumar, Sanjiban tried to play it to Evams Quao. But Arrows’ striker Holicharan Narzary, who was lurking near the penalty box, showed good agility to intercept the weak pass and strike the ball home.

It was Narzary’s second goal of the match after he had given the lead to the hosts in the 34th minute.

Sanjiban was at fault for conceding the first goal too. He should have cleanly collected Avinabo Bag’s shot. But the ball slipped out of his hands and Holicharan happily obliged.
