Calcutta/Brisbane: Shane Warne, on Monday, accused England pacer James Anderson of threatening to punch Australia’s George Bailey in the face during the first Test, at the Gabba.

According to Warne, it was then that the stump microphones picked up Clarke saying to Anderson “Get ready for a broken f------ arm”. Warne, being a commentator, was privy to what was heard on the microphones.

He later tweeted that the threat prompted captain Michael Clarke to defend his player. Clarke was fined 20 per cent of his match fee on Monday for the comment and if proof emerges that Anderson made the threat to Bailey, he too could face punishment.

“@MClarke23 stuck up for his debutant Bailey as he should have too as Capt after Anderson said he wanted to punch Bailey in the face! On another note, I think it’s a disgrace that @MClarke23 has been fined. What about what Jimmy Anderson said to Bailey, which wasn’t heard,” tweeted Warne. “Unfortunately only Clarke’s reaction to Anderson’s was heard live, we all heard Anderson’s sledge that led to Clarke reacting!

“To me it should just stay out in the middle. They all shook hands had a giggle & moved on. By fining Clarke it’s made a big deal out of it.”

David Warner described Anderson as “arrogant” and stated he will not tone down his sledging despite criticism from Andy Flower that he has been “disrespectful” to the England team.

Warner was speaking at Brisbane airport before news of Jonathan Trott’s return home with a stress related illness was announced.
