New Delhi: Seven-time England national champion Rajiv Ouseph clinched the crucial fifth rubber to help Delhi Acers win the Premier Badminton League (PBL) trophy on Sunday.

After both the Acers and the Mumbai Rockets won two matches each, Rajiv, whose family migrated to England from Kerala years ago, came up with a solid performance to defeat RMV Gurusaidutt 15-11, 15-6 in a one-sided encounter.

With an impressive crowd watching the match at the Siri Fort Sports complex, the final of the PBL turned out to be an engrossing show.

The tie opened with the Mumbai franchise taking the lead when their mixed doubles pair of Kamilla Juhl and Vladimir Ivanov defeated Gabrielle Adcock and Akshay Dewalkar (Delhi Acers) 15-6, 15-12.

Acers were quick to level the score as their key player, Indonesian Tommy Sugiarto, overcame HS Prannoy 13-15, 9-15, 9-15 in what was easily the best match of the day.

The Delhi side then went one step ahead in their quest for the title by winning the men's doubles. For Delhi, Koo Keat Kien and Tan Boon Heong beat Mathias Boe and Vladimir Ivanov of Mumbai Rockets 14-15, 15-10, 15-14.

Not yet ready to surrender, Mumbai Rockets kept the tie alive through their Chinese recruit Han Li. Having beaten Saina Nehwal in the semi-finals, Han Li displayed great confidence in winning against PC Thulasi, despite losing the first game. Han Li won 12-15, 15-8, 15-8.
