Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma described the 48-run victory over Kings XI Punjab on Thursday as a “great win”.

Full points from this game in Dubai helped Mumbai Indians move to the top of the standings by virtue of a very impressive net run rate (1.09).

“Indeed, it was a great win. We didn’t start really well, but we knew that the kind of attack Kings XI had, we needed to capitalise on that towards the back end,” Rohit said during the post-match presentation.

“Hardik (Pandya) and (Kieron) Pollard backed themselves to get those runs in the end. Overall, I’m very happy with the batting performances,” Rohit added.

The skipper also completed 5,000 runs in the IPL. He doesn’t seem to be reading much into that aspect, though. “It does feel good to get to 5,000 runs. But I didn’t look much into it. Winning the game was more important,” he said.

Pollard, hammering an unbeaten 47 at a mighty impressive strike rate of 235, was adjudged Man of the Match. “Feels good... Obviously, we were on the losing end last game, so we wanted to come out and get over the line. After 15 overs, we had 100 or so, so we needed to step it up,” he said.
