The International Cricket Council (ICC)’s board of directors failed to arrive at a consensus while deciding on the election process of its chairman during a videoconference on Monday.

“The agenda was to find the process for choosing Shashank Manohar’s successor. But the meeting couldn’t decide on a procedure for the election.

“First, there’s no unanimous candidate. England and Wales Cricket Board outgoing chairman Colin Graves was thought to be the favourite but several cricket boards don’t favour his candidature.

“Second, there was no consensus on whether a simple or a two-thirds majority would decide the issue,” someone in the know of things told The Telegraph.

The ICC will have to call another round of board meeting to decide the issue, which is being debated upon for the past four months.

Board of Control for Cricket in India president Sourav Ganguly could emerge as the only acceptable candidate but he isn’t keen to occupy the chair.

“It’s a very tricky situation. Ganguly has backers but he himself hasn’t shown any interest,” the source said.

Former Cricket West Indies president Dave Cameron and Cricket South Africa president Chris Nenzani are willing to enter the ring but they do not have the numbers.

The same applies for Imran Khwaja, who has been performing the responsibilities as interim chairman since Manohar’s exit.
