Former Olympic sprinter, New Zealand’s Chris Donaldson, has come on board as Kolkata Knight Riders’ strength and conditioning coach for this IPL.

Donaldson has prescribed special bedroom-workout routines for players over group video calls during this quarantine phase in Abu Dhabi.

“There have been some unbelievable workouts he has given everyone to do,” Abhishek Nayar, mentor of the Knight Riders’ academy in Mumbai, told kkr.in about Donaldson, who represented his country at the 1996 and 2000 Olympics apart from working with the Black Caps.

“They are hard, and if you haven’t worked out for a while, you can’t do it. Sore bodies for a couple of days...

“But it’s amazing and very, very helpful for all the boys in this time of staying indoors.”

Head coach Brendon McCullum added a humour element to the matter. “I’ve heard that the shirts this year are going to be very tight. So I need to make sure that I am not too fat as we get into the season.”
