A spokesman for the Premier League, which stopped play in March, declined to comment as the meeting of 20 club officials was ongoing.

The season, as per the reports, will get under way on the Wednesday date with Aston Villa playing at home against Sheffield United and Manchester City hosting Arsenal.

A full fixture list would then be played on the weekend of June 19-21 June. All games will be behind closed-doors.

The two opening fixtures are the “games in hand” which will take all 20 clubs up to 29 matches played.

All the clubs can then go into the June 19-21 weekend having played an equal number of games, therefore reducing the risk of further complications should the season still need to be curtailed.

If all goes well, the remaining 90 fixtures are expected to be held in a frenetic six-week period, with matches played over seven weekends and two rounds of midweek fixtures.

The season will be completed on the weekend of August 1-2. According to the reports, each game will be given a live television slot.

The Premier League was suspended on 13 March due to the coronavirus pandemic but teams returned to small group training last week.

On Wednesday, clubs agreed to move to Phase Two of ‘Project Restart’ with players working in larger groups and closer to each other.

The scheduling was discussed at Thursday’s meeting of all 20 Premier League

clubs and means that they have around three weeks of “contact training” to prepare themselves for the season to restart.

Liverpool, searching for their first league title in 30 years, lead the table by 25 points.
