q+a I was using a Nokia N70 handset and now I have switched over to iPhone 4s. How can I transfer all the text messages from the N70 to the iPhone? There are about a thousand messages stored in my old phone.

If you want to do this transfer the easy way you have to buy a program called MobileTrans. It will cost you around $20 for one-time use. It is available at http://store. wondershare.com/shop/buy/buy-phone-transfer.html. After downloading it launch the tool. Connect both your Nokia phone and the iPhone to your computer via two USB cables. Once connected, the tool will detect your phones. Select 'text messages' and start copying. That's it.
Another solution is to download the app PhoneCopy from the App Store onto your iPhone. On your Nokia phone sync all the messages to the PhoneCopy server. You will find instructions on how to sync your Nokia phone with the remote server at www.phonecopy.com.
Free programme
q+a I installed Xilisoft Video Converter Ultimate 7.8.5 on my PC running Windows 8 but ran into problems because it was an unregistered copy. Please suggest a free program that will do the work of Xilisoft.

Use HandBrake instead. It can process most common multimedia files and any DVD or BluRay sources that do not contain any kind of copy protection. Download the Windows version from http://handbrake.fr.
Format it
q+a I have a Micromax Unite 2 smartphone with 1 GB RAM and 8 GB of internal memory. I have also inserted a Sandisk memory card of 8 GB. It was working fine initially, but now it unmounts itself on its own.

Back up everything you have on the SD card and format it. If it still unmounts on its own you have to replace the card. But first try and format it with the Rufus format tool. It is available from https://rufus.akeo.ie.
Blackberry Blend
q+a I have a Mac running Yosemite and a BlackBerry Q5 mobile phone. I am unable to open Blackberry Blend on my laptop in spite of downloading it from the BlackBerry site. When I sync my phone with my laptop, the contacts and the notes do not sync.

First update your phone to the latest version of BlackBerry 10 OS, which is version 10.3.1. Next check that you have the latest version of BlackBerry Link for Mac. It should be version 1.2.2.11. If you do not have it get it from http://swdownloads.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do. Now check if sync works. If it does not, set up your contacts to sync with your Gmail account. You can then easily import them to your Mac.
As for BlackBerry Blend, open Finder on your Mac. Go to Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/BlackBerry. Look for PeerManager. Double click it and leave the resulting window open. Now click on the Blend icon. It should open.
