In office or while working from home, Dell’s XPS laptops are worth in gold. In the new XPS 13 and XPS 15, the company delivers bigger screen, better battery life and excellent performance without asking you to carry around a heavy device. After the launch, The Telegraph got in touch with Anand Subramanya, director, product marketing, consumer and small business, Dell Technologies, India. Here’s what he told us.

Work-from-home needs have shifted focus from portability to larger screens. How do XPS 13 and XPS 15 deliver keeping WFH in mind?

True and the XPS portfolio encompass the most important innovation Dell has brought in PC technology, that is, the InfinityEdge display. The XPS 13 features a new 16:10 aspect ratio, making the 13.4-inch display 6.8 per cent larger than before. That is almost one million more pixels, designed to offer more screen space to multitask throughout the day and catch all the details of the latest binge-worthy shows. On the XPS 13, the new elevated design offers an essential customer touchpoint, with 9 per cent larger keycaps and a 17 per cent larger trackpad for more comfortable use in a smaller form factor making it the most desirable PC for work and entertainment.
The XPS 15, on the other hand, caters to all the creators, artists and influencers of every kind. It offers the highest screen to body ratio (92.9 per cent) in an eight per cent thinner design, striking a balance between power and portability. These configurations offer creative tools that fast track high-resolution video editing and graphic design processes.

Ditching the 4K OLED option for 4K UHD Plus. What kind of a difference does it make to photo editing and color consistency?

The 4K UHD+ VESA certified DisplayHDR 400 panel on the XPS 15 enables over 16 million colors for better colour accuracy and brightness. It also comes with we have 100 per cent Adobe RGB and 94 per cent DCI P3 Color Gamut on ultra HD+ that delivers bright and accurate colours. It helps you see everything close to real life. The 15.6-inch 4K Ultra HD+ or FHD+ InfinityEdge display panels are Dolby Vision certified. The 4K Ultra HD+ (3840 x 2400) resolution provides pinpoint accuracy, precise detail, and sharp images. Users can see every little detail of every pixel in a photo or while browsing the web without having to zoom in.

The XPS 15 is supposed to be a zippy performer and a photographer/filmmaker’s friend….

The XPS 15 offers incredible audio-video capabilities to make processing and editing a breeze. Tuned by multi-Grammy-winning producer Jack Joseph Puig, the XPS 15 speakers include Waves Nx 3D audio that ensures that users have the best seat in the house with head-tracking to align the direction of the sound to their visual point-of-view. The 10th Gen Intel Core processors coupled with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Ti graphics offers a desktop-like performance on-the-go, making editing, rendering and sharing high-resolution photos and videos on the XPS 15 a delight.

In the way of future-proofing, what have you given the XPS 15 in terms of ports, and what made you do away with USB-A completely?

The XPS 15 is built with 2x Thunderbolt 3 with power delivery and DisplayPort for lightning-fast transfer, high-capacity, and quality SSD storage. It also comes with a USB-C 3.1 with power delivery and DisplayPort, a 3.5mm headphone/microphone combo jack, and ships with a USB-C to USB-A v3.0 and HDMI v2.0 adapter. As the new laptops become slimmer, Type C becomes the most suitable choice for users. A full-size SD card reader v6.0 in XPS 15 is a great function for the creators on the go as it helps transfer of the data seamless.

Given the economic condition, cheaper laptops are adequate for most employees while the top-of-the-line is ideal for those who need a mobile workstation. Where does the XPS 13 and 15 fit in?

The XPS user is someone who is looking for maximum innovation and a modern PC experience. The users of XPS 13 or XPS 15 know their technology and have clear expectations from the portfolio.
