The iPhone 7 can take a shower

q+a Is the iPhone 7 really waterproof as Apple claims?

q+a Is the iPhone 7 really waterproof as Apple claims?

Allanna Mehmood

Apple says that the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are splash, water and dust-resistant. Places on the phone where water and dust can get in have been sealed with rubber gaskets. The removal of the headphone jack and the mechanical home button has greatly improved its water resistance. If you drop an iPhone 7 in a bucket and it stays submerged for a few minutes, it should be all right. That is why the devices have a classification known as IP67, which means they can be submerged in water to a depth of roughly one metre for up to 30 minutes. To be completely waterproof the device needs a rating of IP69.

Change antivirus

q+a Our school uses Quick Heal Internet Security 17.00. Are there more reliable products in the market? Our computers are on the 64-bit version of Windows 10.

Dr Jayanta Pal

A security suite should protect you from threats from the Internet and have good antivirus software built into the package. The problem with Quick Heal is that its firewall is not very good. Windows 10's own firewall is better. The anti-virus component is just about okay. The suite can detect malware, but does not eradicate it completely. If by chance you happen to click on a dubious link Quick Heal is not agile enough to protect you.

I would suggest that you choose among Kaspersky Antivirus 2017, Anywhere, Bitdefender Antivirus Plus 2017, McAfee Antivirus Plus 2017, Webroot SecureAnywhere Antivirus, and Symantec Norton Antivirus Basic. The list is not in their order of merit. You will find these security software offer you better value for money.

Update app

q+a When I try to open WhatsApp on my new phone running Android version 4.4.2 I get an error that says 'your phone date is inaccurate' and I am asked to adjust the time and date. I tapped on the option to adjust the date, but both the date and time are correct. How do I fix this problem?

Partha Adak

This usually happens when certain apps on your phone, including WhatsApp, are out of date. Open Google Play Store on your mobile phone and tap the icon on the top left denoted by three lines. Tap on 'My apps & games' and on 'Update All' under your installed apps. Once all your apps are updated you will be able to access WhatsApp without any problems.

Try Win 8 first

q+a I am using Windows 7 Ultimate on my computer that runs on an Intel Core Duo processor. Can I install windows 10 on my PC?

Debangshu Saikia

There are some hardware requirements that your computer must pass before you can think of upgrading to Windows 10. The processor must be 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster, you have at least 2 GB of RAM and the graphics card must be a Microsoft DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM driver. Also the computer should have a minimum display resolution of 1024×768. That means if your computer can run Windows 8.1 you will be able to upgrade to Windows 10. The best way for you to check this is to download the Window 8.1 Upgrade Assistant. You should find it at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?linkid=259439.

Berry bad

q+a I have a Blackberry Z3 that runs on Blackberry 10 OS. WhatsApp will stop support for it after December 31. Is there a way to get it working after the deadline?

Abhishek Chatterjee

Luckily for you Blackberry has extended its support for your phone till June 30 next year. This announcement is buried under the frequently asked questions section at the WhatsApp website. Support will also continue till then for Nokia S40 and Nokia Symbian S60. However, phones on Android 2.1 and Android 2.2, Windows Phone 7 and iPhone 3GS, including iPhones running on iOS 6, will no longer work with WhatsApp beyond December 31 this year. I would strongly suggest you start saving for a new smartphone because the BlackBerry Z3 already has limited functionality in many areas.
