So far we haven’t seen a foldable phone from Apple because the technology is still in its early days while the Steve Jobs-founded company believes in marketing products that have reached a certain level of perfection. With Samsung’s folding phones proving fairly durable, we may see something from Apple but in the distant future.

According to Bloomberg, the Cupertino, California-based company has begun early work on an iPhone with a foldable screen. The development work hasn’t expanded beyond a display, meaning Apple doesn’t yet have full handset prototypes in its labs, according to a person familiar with the work.

It appears that Apple has been eyeing the segment for a few years now. By 2014, Apple had a patent on a folding phone design.
