Most tech companies are working on solutions to make blood sugar monitoring possible using smart devices. Today, most people who track their blood sugar probably do so because of a condition or real concern, be it diabetes, prediabetes or hypoglycemia. Smart ring maker Oura and glucose monitoring giant Dexcom have struck a partnership that will allow the companies' products to work together.

The partnership shows that wearable tech companies are going beyond wellness and activity tracking to address health in a larger way. The announcement comes at a time when Apple is said to be exploring noninvasive glucose monitoring and meal-logging tools for people who are prediabetic, according to Bloomberg. Also coming to our mind is Oura’s decision to acquire metabolic health company Veri in September.

Dexcom, which sells a glucose monitor called the Stelo, has announced a $75 million investment in Oura. The Oura Ring, at the moment, can track heart rate, sleep quality and other variables.

Understanding blood sugar levels can offer plenty of health benefits. Users will be better informed about the effect of certain foods, exercise and sleep on their glucose levels. The data can also help people understand their so-called glucose curve, helping them avoid becoming at risk for diabetes over time.
