Cuttack, Aug. 29: Government Railway Police (GRP), Cuttack, yesterday arrested Viky Raj, 20, who was allegedly involved in looting cash worth Rs 2.5 lakh from a counter of Punjab National Bank in Bhadrak on August 25.

Raj was nabbed from Cuttack railway station after his bid was foiled to decamp with cash from the reservation counter there yesterday, said superintendent of police (railway) Bhagyadhar Behera.

He said that a closed-circuit television camera installed at the bank had captured his movements. The GRP also suspected involvement of some other people in the theft case. The cops are yet to recover the looted cash.

On Tuesday, Raj was apprehended by GRP, Cuttack, after he had entered the reservation room in the afternoon. “He had managed to enter the reservation counter at the railway station despite high security,” Behera said, adding that efforts were on to ascertain the involvement of other accused in the crime. The police caught him when some employees at the counter raised an alarm.

An official said that Raj, who hailed from Madurai in Tamil Nadu, was pursuing Plus Two science. He was earlier nabbed by GRP Cuttack in connection with loot of Rs 30,000 from a ticket counter of Cuttack railway station on October, 29, 2010.
