Bhubaneswar: The Youth Congress on Monday burnt the posters of BJP president Amit Shah and announced that it would oppose his proposed visit to the state.

Shah is scheduled to visit Odisha on July 1 to discuss the party affairs ahead of the general elections.

Odisha Youth Congress president Lokanath Maharathy said: "Shah will be opposed wherever he goes in the state as he has played with the emotions of its people. Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi are visiting the state frequently and making false promises to hoodwink the people." "We demand the Mahanadi river water dispute between Odisha and Chhattisgarh be resolved at the earliest. But, the Centre is apparently supporting Chhattisgarh and ignoring the interest of Odisha," said Maharathy.

"Besides, the BJP has not kept its electoral promise of providing jobs to two crore youths and bringing back black money to the country."

However, Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee president Niranjan Patnaik expressed his displeasure over such plan. "It's the duty of the president of a national party to campaign for it. Why should we oppose? I am unaware about who took such decision," said Patnaik.

The BJD has not yet decided to oppose Shah's visit. But, BJP leader Pratap Chandra Sarangi said: "If the Congress opposes Shah's visit, we will be a happier lot. We will be welcoming such move."
