Bhubaneswar, Jan. 13: Young Odia artists working across the country have come together to put their best at the city-based Mask Studio. The workshop, hosted by Volume Visual Art, includes a variety of art forms on which the participants are working. The workshop started on Friday.
Titled 'iHiver', the workshop includes works by contemporary sculptors, painters and artists. While some sculptors are working on rock cut works, such as engraved installations or masks cut out of rocks, others are using metal wires, fibre and various other materials to create their work.
"Some of us work here, while some are practicing art in places such as Delhi, Baroda and Santiniketan. So, there are a lot of different influences and ideas. When we come together, we interact and learn. This workshop is helping us understand the art of various places, while we are also sharing ideas and concepts," said artist Manas Maharana, the director of the Mask studio.
Suchismita Mohanty, an artist who has taken part in the workshop, said that she was trying to use various forms that depict urbanisation and it's effect on human lives.
"Most of the participants, who came from outside the state, have left after finishing their works. But many of us have decided to stay back and complete our works," said Ranjan, another participant.
Volume Visual Art was formed in 2005 by students of various art colleges of the state who had come together for an exhibition. "We have been in constant touch ever since despite being located at far-off places. Our group is thus very active," said Priyatama Nayak, another artist.
The works will be displayed at the studio in the form of an exhibition in February.
