Woman, paramour held

Bhubaneswar: Puri Sadar police on Monday booked the wife and her lover for the suicide of the 28-year-old techie on November 9 at Gadabhingara village suspecting infidelity by the wife. The police arrested both of them under Sections 306 (abetment of suicide) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of Indian Penal Code. The cops swung into action after the deceased uploaded a video on Facebook before committing suicide disclosing about his wife’s infidelity. The police said they were interrogating both of them.

Jawan injured

Malkangiri: Two jawans of the Central Reserve Police Force, deployed in anti-Maoists operation, were injured on Monday in a landmine blast by the rebels near Jantapai forest in Chitrokanda block of Malkangiri district. “Two CRPF jawans are injured. Combing operation is under way to flush out the rebels from their hideouts and diffuse live landmines,” said a police official. The incident took place when the CRPF forces launched a combing operation following a tip off about the presence of a number of Maoists in the forest, the official said.

Man killed

Keonjhar: In the latest outbreak of man-elephant conflict, a wild elephant killed a 42-year-old man in a forest-side village of Keonjhar district on Monday. The incident took place on Sunday in Bhaludari village under Telkoi block of the district. The victim, Laxman Juang, had made his way into habitation corridors of the animals to collect firewood when a wild tusker trampled him to death, said a forest official.

Woman found dead

Balasore: A woman was found dead in her house with injury marks in Nilgiri town on Monday. Cops detained the family members of the woman suspecting it as a case of murder. The deceased is identified as Santilata Malik, about 35, of Kadamsahi, Ward No. 1 of Nilgiri town. In another incident, the body of a missing woman was found in a pond in Remuna on Monday. The deceased has been identified as Saraswti Singh, 52 of Patripal.

Kangaroo court

Jagatsinghpur: Police rescued a couple, who were tied to a tree in Baramundali village under Balikuda police station jurisdiction of Jagatsinghpur district. A section of villagers suspecting their involvement in a theft case had punished them by tying their hands and legs to a tree in the village, a police official said. A case has been registered in this connection, police said adding that culprits will be arrested shortly.

Cops bust fake ghee factory

Bhubaneswar: Police busted a fake ghee manufacturing unit at Bangali Sahi near Lakshmisagar here on Sunday and arrested six persons in this connection. Acting on a tip-off, a special police team raided the factory near Cuttack Road.

Elderly stabbed

Bhubaneswar: The father of a software professional was allegedly stabbed by a youth in Mancheswar police limits on Monday. The woman was on her way home when Satrughan Nayak forcibly hugged her. When her father rushed to the spot hearing her scream, the accused stabbed him and he suffered minor injuries. Nayak was later handed over to police.

Temple land PIL

Cuttack: A PIL filed in Orissa High Court on Monday sought intervention against inaction of state authorities against the forceful occupation and possession of thousands of acres belonging to the Jagannnath temple in Puri by land mafia, brokers and builders. Berhampur-based Bharatiya Bikash Parisha president Surendra Panigrahi filed the petition seeking the court’s direction to the  government to submit details of properties of Lord Jagannath and what extent of it was under unauthorised occupation.
